I was reading this supplement today and couldn't believe it when I came across the section of things Irish women couldn't do in the 70s.
To put it in perspective, my mum was my age then so she alot of these applied to her.
"In 1970, some pubs refused to allow women to enter at all, some allowed women only if accompanied by a man and very many refused to serve women pints of beer. Women who were accidentally served a pint would be instructed to pour it into two half-pint glasses"
My Mum told me that if she was out in a pub with her then boyfriend, he had to order the pints, as it was illegal for her to do so! It wasn't an age issue (she was in her 20s) but a sex issue. Imagine!
Anyway, on the day that the Irish Times published this supplement (which is worth a read, whether you're Irish or not), I came across three gems from three of my fave women!
1. Victoria Legrand of Beach House, performing with Grizzly Bear
2. Tina Fey's greatest comedy bits in The Guardian
and
3. Zooey discusses her style
Yay!
PS. Stepmom is on now.
It's so cheesy but I always end up watching it.
And two of my fave actresses!
