I was looking at my (unread) copy of The Loved One by Evelyn Waugh, and noticed that it's dedicated to Nancy Mitford. Though my knowledge of the Mitford Sisters is near non-existent, I always see this book when I'm browsing the shelves of my fave bookshops (nerd).

Upon a little investigation (read googling) and a chat with my aul one, I found out that one of the sisters was in school with my Granny! Now I'm fascinated and can't wait to get my hands on the book.

Nancy, who was the eldest, also wrote Love in a Cold Climate and The Pursuit of Love.

An article from The Times characterises the sisters as: Diana the Fascist, Jessica the Communist, Unity the Hitler-lover; Nancy the Novelist; Deborah the Duchess and Pamela the unobtrusive poultry connoisseur.

So intriguing, non?
