27 June, 2011

London was lovely.

along with drinking and eating a silly amount, I also
-Wandered around Notting Hill
-Spotted Dakota Fanning doing some serious shopping
-Almost had a Sliding Doors moment, but actually got caught in the tube door. Ouch.

Never enough time in that city.

But it was nice to come back home to read 'One Day' in which they were frolicking about London Town.

I'm not sure if this is a print, but I want it!
Off to lovely London in two weeks, for the weekend.
Yay!

29 March, 2011

I've got itchy feet.
Big time.

And while a post-'marathon' trip to Paris is on the cards, it's not enough!

Two of my friends and I are researching the possibility of a mini road trip in the U S of A.
A few days in New York, get a car (convertible, natch) and head down to Washington DC.

Obviously we'll stop off at a roadside diner, where, when we walk in,
all the punters will gawp and say "you folks aren't from 'round here".
Our car will probably break down and we'll have to stay in a
dodgy motel with a sinister manager... you know, just the usual stuff.

I'm having fun just reading the guidebooks (I love the travel section in bookshops) and
already have loads of places to eat/drink/shop/see bookmarked.
The museums in Washington sound incredible, and maybe
B&M will extend an invitation for dinner Chez Obama?
One can dream.
And of course New York.

Often planning a holiday can be as much fun as the trip itself...

Whenever I say 'Washington DC", this song comes into my head.

04 February, 2011

Such a horrible day weather wise and I'm sorting out my pics from 2010.

Thought I'd post some lovelies from my Interrailing trip to cheer me up...

Huzzah! I'm going to London for the weekend tomorrow!
I hate having heavy carry-on baggage but, because I'm a cheapskate, I refuse to shell out 30€ to check on ONE item. Madness people.

I digress.

I actually dislike short flights. By the time they give you the okay to use 'portable electronic items', you're landing. Randomly I'm sharing this flight with a friend who is also heading to London, so I won't need music... but if I did, then these songs would totes be on my playlist.

-Adele - Cold Shoulder
-Yazoo - Don't Go
-Britney Spears - Hold it Against Me
-Foster The People - Pumped Up Kicks
-Tapes 'n Tapes - Freak Out
-Vampire Weekend - M79 (watch this version, SO good)

30 September, 2010

I'm back from Canada and so very tired.

Enamoured of Montréal with its French feel and obsessed with Torontos ethnicity,
my two week trip has left me wanting more.

It still felt like summer when I left Dublin, and now I can see it slowly turning
towards Autumn. Which means one thing and one thing only, Autumn Wardrobe!

Having an early night tonight and hoping my dreams will be full of fall fashion...
and my new obsession (thanks Canada), bubble tea!

Oh and listening to the lovely Stars.

This song feels strangely Autumnal.

13 September, 2010

Taking a break from blogging (not that I'm the most frequent anyway...)
because I'm going to Canada for two weeks!

Will catch the last of the Toronto Film Festival (Jon Hamm, watch out!)
and head to Montréal for a few days... hoping for some Fall Foliage!

À Bientôt mes amies!

ps I'll most likely be tweeting so follow me on twitter if you're so inclined!

10 September, 2010

Voila, c'est Montréal!

Next week I'll be spending a few days in the French capital of Canada!
Can't wait to parle en francais... in North America. Will be quite surreal,
but the best of both worlds.

'Fall' foliage, or Autumn as we call it over here, is meant to be spectacular so I'm
hoping I'll see lots of reds and browns on the train from Toronto!

06 September, 2010

I'm a little bit nervous about about flying next week. I think the flight to Toronto is about 7 hours. I haven't done a long-haul (for me, anything over 4 hours is long haul) since 2003 and this time I'll be flying by myself. Air Canada inform me that the plane I'm on is one of the only ones that isn't equipped with their on demand entertainment. Seven hours is a looong time. I plan on bringing 'Never Let Me Go' to read, probably some trashy mags, and my full ipod.

Any book/music recommendations for this long-haul novice(ish)?

And because I'm a nerd, I'll probably be making an 'airplane' playlist.

But, I'm excited. Canada in 8 days eh!

Bella Venezia!

July 2010

27 August, 2010

Ever since I booked my tickets to Toronto (woohoo!), I've been looking at guide books and googling incessantly. I always do this when I'm going somewhere. In some ways I guess it takes the fun out of it, but I LOVE being organised (lists lists lists) so it's fun for me.

Gems so far:
*Wanda's Pie In The Sky
*St. Lawrence Market (food market)
*Kensington Market - lots of vintage and one off shops
*ALL the ethnic food - KoreaTown, GreekTown, ChinaTown, Little Italy etc.
*Whole Foods!
And of course, some things other than food
*Anthropologie
*CN Tower (so exciting seen as how the highest building in Dublin is about 20 stories high)

Definitely think I'll rent a bike too.

So excited!

27 June, 2010

I definitely don't have a Type A personality, but I'm one for the lists.
Especially when I'm going away.
I've got lists for clothes, lists for electronics, ones for toiletries and one for hand luggage.
And the same thing always happens,
'Sure they have shops in ____, so it's not that bad if I forget my ____'.

Most important things are passport and tickets. AND money of course!

You can follow our travel adventures on http://inter-railing.tumblr.com, which we'll try and update as much as possible.

Hope everyone has a happy and wonderful July!
xoxo

PS. This is my favourite song (so far) this summer:

I LOVE Stars!

07 May, 2010

Imagine Harry Potter theme music!
And mist.
And Privet Drive.
And Butterbeer.

I want, nay, need to go to The Wizarding World of Harry Potter.

But, it should be in the UK, not all the way over in Florida.

24 April, 2010

I'm in the midst of planning an inter-railing trip around Europe this summer with a great friend!

The schedule looks like this thus far:

Berlin
Warsaw
Krakow
Prague
Salzburg
Vienna
Bratislava
Budapest
Croatia (Not sure where?)
Italy (Venice, Florence, Bologna, Roma, Cinque Terre)
France (Nice, Cannes, Marseille)
Barcelona

We'll probably have 2 days in each city (and a few more in Berlin & Barca).

(This will be me, reading on the train)

If you've been to any of the above and have places to see/eat/sleep (budget!) to recommend, please share!

11 March, 2010

Going to Copenhagen tomorrow! It will be cold and there's a chance of snow... but I'm mostly excited to explore the city.

Look how cute the harbour is!

Need to find this street

Can't wait to people watch and hear a brand new language!

11 February, 2010

Flights are booked! Going to Paris from 3rd-8th April and then Lyon until the 14th! SO excited.

My list of things to do/eat/buy is rapidly growing.

Any suggestions/recommendations would be most welcome!

Looking at inter-railing this summer... If only trains like this still existed.
